Vineyards and Winemaking
Organically grown estate Pinot Noir fruit, 53% is sourced from Finlayson Vineyard at the base of the clay hills in the Southern Valleys sub-region of the Wairau Valley, 47% is from our Templar Vineyard in the cooler, windier Awatere Valley. A mixture of Pinot Noir clones 667, Abel, 113, 10/5 is planted. Fruit is cold soaked in open-top fermenters for 3-5 days, then natural fermentation takes place with native yeasts. After 20-25
days on skins, the wines are pressed into a mixture of 35% new and 65% seasoned French oak barriques for a maturation period of 12 months.
92 points - Ripe light red fruit aromas deliver freshness, ripeness and power on the nose. Suggestions of raspberry and red currant, cherry and red apple. Some gentle wood spices emerge as the wine relaxes in glass - with a moderate toasty signature. Dry on the palate with plenty of fruit at the core. The youthful fresh and vibrant side of the wine shows with vibrant yet fine tannins, some toasty wood and brown spice moments, gently warming alcohol and fruit-led finish. Balanced and well made. Lots to like and enjoy. Drink now and through 2024.Cameron Douglas MS
