The 2010 vintage was excellent for our Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels. Low vine yields combined with moderate temperatures and dry conditions through the late season, which led to prolonged ripening and the development of intense colours and flavours in the resulting wines. After carefully selecting out fruit from the lowest vigour zones within our vineyards, only the finest barriques from our cellar were then blended for this wine. The wine is displaying complex aromas of black and red fruits, potpourri, cassis and complex dried herbs, while the palate is complemented by fine tannins and a long, elegant finish.

Soils And Viticulture
The fruit for this wine was grown entirely on the gravelly soils of the Gimblett Gravels growing region in Hawkes Bay. The free-draining soils of these sites help ensure balanced fruit and canopy growth which is essential for ripe flavours and tannin development. Yields are cropped low allowing vines to produce fruit that is richly concentrated in colour, flavour and structure. The lowest vigour zones were identified within the vineyards through soil mapping and selective picking, yielding the ripest and most intensely flavoured fruit available for the production of this wine.
96 points. Fabulous bouquet of Cabernet and Merlot with ripe and youthful red fruits of blackberry and plum, dark velvet rose, sweet tobacco and plenty of toasty wood layers, complex and engaging. Dry, rich, powerful and engaging with flavours of dark red fruits, loads of toasty oak and oak spice, firm tannins and medium+ acidity, best of all - complex and youthful still.
