Stand-alone Malbec wines are rare in New Zealand but exceptional vintages will produce exceptional wines that deserve a separate bottling.

A deeply coloured and brooding wine perfumed with the scent of blackberries, plums, vanilla and peppery spices. Darkly fruited, this intensely concentrated wine also offers beautifully integrated tannins and complexing oak derived aromatics and flavours. Stand alone Malbec wines are rare in New Zealand, however, the 2015 vintage produced a special wine, fully deserving of a separate bottling.
Vineyards and Winemaking
The 2015 season was marginally cooler than average across the board but with a heat spike in March that surpassed the highly acclaimed 2013 and 2014 vintages. Mid-March and early April rainfall presented challenges to winemakers and the focus became pushing ripening as far as possible without
losing fruit condition. In these seasons the free draining gravel sites come to the fore. As is typical to Hawkes Bay, cooler nights moderated daytime temperatures and allowed for steady sugar and flavour accumulation across vineyards.
A classic malbec; dense and richly textured with typical blueberry, plum, chocolate and spice flavours. It has plenty of weight and power, yet is accessible. An elegant version of the more generously proportioned Argentinean model. 94 pointsBob Campbell MW
