A versatile grape that expresses incredible regional diversity.

Chardonnay is known as the chameleon of the wine world for its ability to be expressed in a wide variety of styles, depending on winemaker preference.

This adaptable grape varietal can be grown successfully across a wide range of climates and regions.

In New Zealand Chardonnay is grown in both the North and South Islands.

Regional characteristics

Our North Island wines

The North Island’s Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Auckland regions have sunny, maritime climates perfect for slowly ripening Chardonnay promoting fruit intensity and freshness. These rich, textual wines express stonefruit, fig and honeyed characteristics, with hints of tropical fruit.

Our Marlborough Wines

When you move into our southern Marlborough region the Chardonnay we produce displays subtle more lemon/lime and white stonefruit flavors, with mineral notes imparted by the stony, alluvial soils vines are grown in.

Food matching

Chardonnay is the most versatile white wine to pair with food. Enjoy with fresh seafood, chicken Caesar salad, or an antipasto platter.
